Jay Teich
CEO, Seahorse Bioscience
Jay Teich is the CEO and Chairman of Seahorse Bioscience. Mr. Teich founded the company in 2000 as Thermogenic Imaging, then executed a series of acquisition and changed the company’s name to Seahorse Bioscience in 2004. Mr. Teich has extensive experience in high technology instrumentation companies in the industrial, defense, medical device and life science markets as a leader, independent Director and private investor.
Earl Lewis
CEO, FLIR Systems
Earl Lewis is President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of FLIR Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of thermal imaging and broadcast camera systems for a wide variety of applications in the commercial and government markets. Prior to joining FLIR in 2000, Mr. Lewis was President and Chief Executive Officer of Thermo Instruments Systems, Inc. He served in various capacities with Thermo Instrument Systems, since 1986. Thermo Instrument Systems develops, manufactures and markets analytical instruments used to identify complex compounds as well as instruments used to image, inspect and measure various industrial processes and life sciences phenomena. Mr. Lewis is a member of the Board of Directors of SpectRx, Inc., IGI Inc. and Harvard Bioscience Inc.
Dr. Joseph D. Keegan
President and CEO, ForteBio, Inc.
Dr. Keegan is CEO of Forte Bioscience, manufacturer for high throughput protein analysis instruments. Dr. Keegan has more than 25 years of experience managing life science tools businesses. During his 9-year tenure at MDC, Dr. Keegan grew the company's revenues from $30 million to $190 million through internal growth and acquisitions. In early 2007, he oversaw its acquisition by MDS for $615 million. Dr. Keegan joined MDC from Becton, Dickinson and Company where he served as president of Worldwide Tissue Culture and vice president, general manager of Worldwide Flow Cytometry. Prior to Becton Dickinson, Dr. Keegan was vice president of the Microscopy and Scientific Instruments Division of Leica, Inc. He currently serves on the board of directors of ALSSA, Alpha Innotech Corporation, BioImagene, Inc. and Seahorse Bioscience Inc. Dr. Keegan holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Stanford University.
Jeffrey M. Hurst
General Partner, Co-founder Commonwealth Capital
Jeffrey M. Hurst is a general partner and a co-founder of Commonwealth Capital Ventures. Jeff has more than 20 years of venture capital and private equity experience. He has experience in the communications infrastructure, information technology, and analytical systems industries.
Before co-founding Commonwealth in 1995, Jeff was a senior vice president with GE Capital’s Corporate Finance Group. Jeff previously served as a managing partner of Cox Partners, a private equity firm, after starting his career with Bankers Trust Company.
Jeff earned a BA in History and Economics from Duke University and an MBA from Tulane University. Jeff is also a member of the Trinity College Board of Visitors of Duke University.
David Stone
Managing Director, Liberty Tree Advisors, LLC
David Stone is the Founder and Managing Director of Liberty Tree Advisors, LLC, a consulting firm that helps emerging life sciences companies grow. He is also a Venture Advisor to Flagship Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on creating, financing, and building innovative companies in the Life Science and Technology sectors. In addition, he is an independent director and Chairman of Oscient Pharmaceuticals, a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company.
A veteran of Wall Street, David followed the Biotechnology sector for nearly ten years at Cowen & Company, where he built a highly regarded research and investment banking practice. David began his career in biotechnology in 1983 as a Project Manager and later Communications Director at Genetics Institute (now part of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals). He earned a B.S. in Microbiology from Colorado State University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Harry Wilcox
Chief Financial Officer and Partner, Flagship Ventures
As CFO and Partner at Flagship Ventures, Harry manages all financial operations and LP relations/fundraising. Most recently, prior to joining Flagship Ventures, Harry served as CFO and then Sr. VP Corporate Development for EXACT Sciences. In addition to EXACT Sciences, during the last three years, Harry has led an active consulting practice which included roles as interim CEO of two biotech companies: Thrasos Therapeutics and Biostratum. Prior to this, Harry was Executive Vice President, Chief of Finance and Corporate Development of Pyrosequencing, a publicly-held biotech company.
Fouad Azzam, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Partner, LSP - Life Sciences Partners
Fouad Azzam, Ph.D., M.B.A., joined LSP as General Partner in early 2007. He is based out of LSP's US offices in Boston, MA and is responsible for investments in North America. Prior to joining LSP, Dr. Azzam was Managing Director of Eastman Ventures where he built the Life Sciences and Advanced Materials & Devices practices. In his role as Managing Director, he was not only responsible for numerous early and late stage investments across the US & Europe, but also for the overall investment strategy and launch of several new business platforms.
Prior to his role at Eastman Ventures, Dr. Azzam held senior leadership positions at Eastman Chemical Company including roles in Innovation, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Development (M&A), and New Business Development. His career also includes business, operating, and technology roles at Occidental Chemical and BFGoodrich.
Dr. Azzam's academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron in Ohio, and an M.B.A. in finance & strategy from the University of Buffalo in New York.
